Coronavirus and Village of Bannockburn Operations (4-16 update)

Dear Bannockburn Residents,

Stay Strong – we are flattening the curve. There is now some talk about opening up the economy but that can’t happen unless we make more progress in testing and achieve a better understanding of how we can avoid a second wave of virus infections. If we open up too early we will lose everything we have accomplished with our stay at home policy. Hospitals, healthcare workers and first responders have done a fabulous job keeping up with people that are in need of help.

If you have to go out, wear a mask and keep yourself 6 to 10 feet away from everyone. Even if you are not symptomatic,  you could be spreading the virus. You have all heard that it’s recommended that you take a walk. NOW, this time, take a walk WITHOUT your cell phone or music iPod. Enjoy the fresh air in your face and birds singing in your ears. Please walk on the Village of Bannockburn paths or share the roads with the bikes and vehicles traveling.

Stimulus checks have started to arrive in bank accounts this week. If the virus did not have a financial impact on you, please think about the people it did. Once your favorite restaurant opens consider leaving  them a really big tip to help them recover. Think about all of the service industries that have been dramatically affected – barber, hair dresser, yoga, massage therapist, dentist and nail salon etc. etc. When they open consider a 100% tip. It will make their day.

Garbage and Recycling – As mentioned in my letter dated 3/27/20,  in order to better protect the safety of the drivers, trash and recycling will be restricted to what fits into the LRS cans. Bulk items that require the drivers to handle the trash will not be picked up at this time. The garbage amnesty day which was scheduled for early June has been canceled.

The Village of Bannockburn Arbor Day 4/24/20 and the Wine and Cheese party that was scheduled for 6/5/20 have been canceled.

The update on the Beeson corner proposed development was communicated in a letter to the residents on 4/14/20. Check the Village website if you need to see another copy of the letter.

Many of the residents have front yard signs from past years that read  “ We Support Our Police” . NOW is a great time to put that sign back in your front yard. Special thanks to all first responders, health care workers and grocery workers that are on the front line of this virus every day.

On 4/15/20 we extended the Village of Bannockburn Declaration of the State of Emergency. The Village Hall will remain closed with the Staff working from home until further notice. The Bannockburn ByLine newsletter will be issued on Friday 4/17/20 with additional updates.

Smile for the day:

A couple goes to see their Therapist; —Therapist: Your wife says you never buy her flowers. Is that true? Him: To be honest, I never knew she sold flowers.

Please let me know if you have questions, concerns or comments.

Bud Rothing
Bannockburn Village President
