Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests

To inspect, copy or certify public records from the Village of Bannockburn, a request must be submitted pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”). Requests must be made in writing and may be submitted by:

For requests made for commercial purposes, the Village will respond within twenty-one (21) business days after receipt of the request. For all other requests, the Village will respond within five (5) business days, unless the response period is lawfully extended or the request is denied.

All extensions or denials will be provided in writing and will state the reasons therefor. A requestor may seek review of a denial by the Public Access Counselor of the Office of the Illinois Attorney General. Judicial review is available under Section 11 of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140/1 et seq.

Police Body-Worn Camera and Squad Video Requests

Requests for police body-worn camera footage or squad car video are subject to FOIA and applicable statutory exemptions. Records may be redacted as required by law to protect privacy, ongoing investigations, confidential information or other exempt material.

Any police body-worn camera footage or squad car video released pursuant to a FOIA request, whether for commercial or non-commercial purposes, may be provided with a watermark identifying the Village of Bannockburn, the requestor’s name, and the stated purpose of the request (commercial or non-commercial). The watermark does not alter the content of the record and is applied for identification and tracking purposes only.
