IRS Scam Warning (10-7-2014)

During the past several days the Deerfield Police Department and surrounding Police jurisdictions have received numerous reports from residents concerning unsolicited calls from an individual purporting to be a US Treasury Department (IRS) agent. The caller informs the resident they are delinquent on their tax payments and have been unresponsive to inquiries made by the US Treasury Department. The caller then states IRS agents are en route to the home to arrest the responsible parties. The resident is also instructed to contact a phone number supplied by the caller to make arrangements for payment and avoid the arrest.

Should you or a family member receive such a call, DO NOT provide the caller with any information, terminate the call and do not call any phone number that may have been supplied. None of the calls have resulted in anyone coming to a home. However, if anyone comes to your house related to the call, contact 9-1-1 immediately. No Government Agency or legitimate business will contact you and request immediate payment via phone.
